Private Berlin Third Reich Excursion for cruise travelers starts at the cruise terminal. You will be met at the port and the driver will drive you to Berlin in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle. When you get to Berlin you will be met by one of our professional local guides and taken on a tour of the city. At the end of the day, you will be escorted back to the ship.
The Third Reich tour begins in a very significant place — the site where the Nazis first managed to seize power, the Reichstag. Our guide will meet you here and give you essential details on how the Nazis managed to turn Germany into a fascist dictatorship. Visit the Soviet War Memorial, a mass grave where 2,500 Soviet troops who sacrificed their lives in the final days of the war are buried. A couple hundred meters away, further down — the Brandenburg Gate, which is known as the most famous entryway to the old city. Here you will visit memorials to the people suffered from Nazi terror, for example, the Memorial to the murdered Sinta and Roma, the Memorial to the Murdered Homosexuals, and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews, a huge field of concrete stelae. Just a stone’s throw away underneath a non-descript parking lot is the bunker where Hitler took his life in April of 1945.
After lunch, the tour heads through the park to Tiergarten Str 4, the site of the infamous euthanasia program known as T4. On the adjacent street called Stauffenbergstr is a museum dedicated to resistance fighters where you will learn about the White Rose movement, Count Klaus Stauffenberg, Georg Elser and others who openly opposed the Nazi apparatus and attempted to take it down from within. From here the tour heads to the center of the American sector and what was once the most iconic cathedrals in Berlin. The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial church is today still scarred with bullet holes and shrapnel damage and its broken spire is a testament to the absolute destruction of Berlin during the war.

Heading back to the city center we will stop at one of the most frightening addresses in all of Germany, nowadays known appropriately as the Topography of Terror. It is a museum on the site of the former Headquarters of the SS and Gestapo. This is also a chance to see one of the few remaining examples of Nazi architecture, the former Air Ministry of Hermann Goering built in 1936. The tour then continues on to the historic heart of the city and to the square where the Nazis burnt 20,000 books in May of 1933, today known as Bebel Platz. Finally, you will visit the somber memorial dedicated to the global victims of war and oppression, known as the Neue Wache. This is where our tour ends and you will be driven back to the ship.
